Kristen Wiig Covers Marie Claire: 'I'm Happier Than I've Ever Been' (PHOTOS)
Though she saddened millions of TV fans when she exited Saturday Night Live in May, Kristen Wiig says she's in a really good place right now. In fact, she tells Marie Claire that she's never been better.
"I will say that I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and I feel very lucky," she revealed in the August 2012 issue, on stands July 17.
So, what -- or should we say, whom -- is behind her new-found happiness?
"Where I am now. Who he is. Those are the two big ones," she said, referring in part to her boyfriend, 32-year-old Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, whom she brought as a guest to Ellie Kemper's wedding last weekend. (See photos below.)
Meanwhile, Wiig also opens up about her decision to leave SNL at a time when she was arguably the show's most popular and successful cast member. As she puts it, she always knew she was going to part ways after seven seasons.
“I know a lot of people probably assume, ‘Oh, she’s leaving because she is going to be doing movies now and things like that,’ which I will be," she said. "But I just always knew it was going to be seven and that was it."
"I think maybe if I were 22, I could see myself staying a little bit, but it just felt like the right time," she said of her decision to leave, which she referred to as "very emotional."
"I just wanted to get through it without breaking down in every sketch. Because nothing says comedy like breaking down," she said.
With SNL now behind her, Wiig -- who earlier this year received an Oscar nomination for penning the script for Bridesmaids -- can focus on her blossoming movie career.
Later this year, she'll appear as a down-and-out daughter who moves back home with her gambling-addicted mother following a failed suicide attempt in Imogene, opposite Annette Bening and Darren Criss.
Then, in 2013, she'll co-star in a number of high-profile projects, including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, opposite Ben Stiller, and the Sean Penn-directed film The Comedian, with Robert DeNiro.
No wonder she's so happy!
