'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: A Party and Some Pills
Tuesday’s episode of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars proved a party is never just a party in Rosewood and that everything the girls do means something.
Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched “That Girl is Poison.”
Jenna’s (Tammin Sursok) birthday bash provided an interesting backdrop for an episode of PLL that gave us some possible insight into Lucas’ (Brendan Robinson) role with the ‘A’ situation. The former nice boy on campus was not only seen aggressively banging on the window of Laurel Tuckman’s photo studio for his camera bag but also scaring Aria and us (yes, we gasped) outside the studio that night.
Conveniently, Tuckman was hired as the photographer for Jenna’s party and happens to be who Aria (Lucy Hale) took classes with over the summer. I knew those photography classes would come into play somehow. While at the party, in an effort to gain some information about Lucas, Aria spills a drink on Tuckman’s memory cards and offers to pick some up at the studio for her so she can steal Lucas’ negatives and find out whether or not he is the one who took the pictures of the girls at Ali’s open grave. Though she doesn’t find the negatives she wanted, she does find three of the sleeping pills that were used to drug Emily (Shay Mitchell) in the third season opener.
We learned of Em’s predicament when Paige (Lindsay Shaw) fell and was taken to the hospital after drinking from Emily’s flask all night. The tox screen reveals she was drugged and provides us with yet another mystery of how did ‘A’ do it?
Meanwhile, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) has hacked into her mom’s email to make sure she is at the hospital for Garret’s (Yani Gellman) visit to his ill mother. When an altercation with Garret and Nate (Sterling Sulieman), Maya’s cousin, takes place, she sneakily heads to her room and finds a spooky note hidden under her hospital bracelet stating, “April Rose has the proof.” Of course no one knows who April Rose is at the moment, but I bet we will find out soon enough.
Our broken hearted Liar, Hanna (Ashley Benson), who plans to “listen to every sad song [she’s] ever downloaded on repeat” spends her Saturday night at a charity clothing drive where she finds Em’s missing leather jacket from the night she was drugged/blacked out and ended up at Alison’s grave. Just how did it get there? Who put it there? All we saw was a shadowy figure that seemed to make many appearances in the episode.
OMG!: Lucas corners Aria when she leaves the photo studio causing both her and us to gasp.
Thank you, TV Gods: Ezra got a job!!! It’s about time the ex-teacher is gainfully employed.
Awk-ward: Pretty much all of Aria and Ezra’s interactions had a tinge of awkwardness. But when she bought Ezra sandwiches, it led Spencer to drop this gem, “Every time you baby squirrel Ezra you’re taking away his nuts.” That took the cake.
Hotness: Toby smoldering in Spencer’s doorway for an impromptu make out session made us melt.
Fab-u-lous: Hanna stuffs Em’s jacket into her super-cute straw, neon yellow tote which we’re pretty sure we’ve been pining over for weeks at rebeccaminkoff.com.
Can. Not. Wait.: The note Garret left said, “April Rose has the proof.” So just who is April Rose? Was the timing of Jenna’s party related to Garret’s release? And what developments will come of Jenna’s flirtation with Nate? It seems there are so many questions to be answered and so few episodes left to answer them.
