The X Factor made a pit stop in Greensboro, NC, Sunday afternoon for the show's latest round of auditions, during which judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid took a few minutes to give reporters an update on how season 2 is progressing.

Spears, 30, who joined the show with Lovato after season 1 judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were fired, has been positioned as the "nice" judge so far this season, a role she's more than willing to play.

"It's about using constructive criticism," she told reporters in a video released on Wednesday. "These people are driving so far out of the way to come in and to perform and put themselves out there. So it's really kind of hard to tell some of them no."

How did Lovato describe her judging skills?

As for Lovato's judging style, the 19-year-old singer actress reveals that, for her, honesty is the best policy.

"I just speak my mind," she said. "Sometimes I've been called the toughest judge, but I can also be really, really nice. I try to make people laugh as much as possible, because it's all about having fun.

"When Simon [Cowell] and I banter back and forth, it's all in good fun, of course," she added. "He's pretty witty. I have to keep up with him."

On Monday it was reported that Lovato -- whose latest single, 'Give Your Heart a Break,' is climbing the iTunes charts -- will host the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on July 22, a gig she is "really, really excited" about.

"I'm really honored to be hosting it," she said. "I grew up watching it, and now I'm going to be hosting it, which is insane to me. And then being nominated is such a great feeling. I'm really thankful for every teenager out there [who] voted."
