It seems Florence Welch is not a machine.

The Florence + The Machine singer took to the band's website to announce that upcoming concerts will be canceled because her voice is out of commission.

"I've sustained a vocal injury and been told I cannot sing for a week," she wrote. "Seriously, I felt something snap -- it was very frightening."

The Grammy-winning group has had to bow out of festival gigs.

Florence + The Machine called off performances at Spain's Benicassim Festival and Lisbon's Optimus Alive Music and Arts Festival. No word on whether the group will make up the missed concerts.

In a series of tweets, the singer revealed she is on vocal rest "to avoid permanent damage." Apologizing to fans, Welch vowed "to make it up to you in the future."

If her recovery goes smoothly, Florence + The Machine is set to hit the stage for the North American leg of its tour, kicking off in Burnaby, British Columbia, on July 20.

Welch is just the latest artist to suffer from vocal chord injury. Click through Celebuzz's gallery find out which other musicians were silenced by their wounded pipes.

The author of this article is clearly unfamiliar with wikipedia as they've misspelled Florence's surname. It's 'Welch' not 'Welsh'. Tut tut..
