Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Divorce: 'He'll Have a Meaningful Relationship with Suri,' Says Lawyer
Though Tom Cruise has split with wife Katie Holmes, the Rock of Ages star is determined to make it work with his daughter, according to his lawyer.
"He will have a meaningful relationship with Suri," Bert Fields tells People.
Holmes, 33, has full custody of the six-year-old, while Cruise, 50, has been given "generous" visitation rights under the supervision of Suri's personal nanny and bodyguard as per the couple's divorce settlement.
When will Cruise see Suri for the first time since the split?
"I don't know the details of his schedule, so I can't comment," Fields continues. "My guess is he'll be seeing Suri very soon."
"Tom was always most interested in his child," he adds. "His concern was for Suri."
However, Cruise is not the only one who dotes on little Suri.
The estranged couple, who was married for five-and-a-half years, released a joint statement saying that both Cruise and Holmes are "committed" to being parents after news of their separation news had broke.
“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests," the statement read. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents."
The parents quickly agreed on a divorce settlement 10 days after Holmes first announced the split.
