‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’: Amanda Plummer Joins Cast as Wiress (PHOTOS)
Pulp Fiction star Amanda Plummer is the latest actor to join the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Lionsgate announced on Tuesday, July 17 that the 55-year-old actress would take on the part of Wiress in the highly-anticipated sequel to March's box office smash.
Plummer joins the already impressive cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), Liam Hemsworth (Gale), and the most recently announced star, Phillip Seymour Hoffman who will play Plutarch Heavensbee.
So, what do you need to know about Wiress?
Wiress was a female tribute from District 3 who was named a Victor in a previous Hunger Games, about 20 years before the events of Catching Fire take place.
In the 75th Quarter Quell, which Katniss and Peeta must compete in along with 22 other tributes, Katniss is the only competing tribute who wants Wiress as an ally. Wiress proves to be a valuable asset after she discovers the arena they're competing in is shaped like a clock, which helps them predict the obstacles the Gamemakers arranged.
Wiress also gains the nickname "nuts" from fellow competing tribute Johanna Mason. Sucker Punch star Jena Malone has nabbed the role of Mason, sources confirm to Celebuzz, although an official casting announcement has yet to be made.
Plummer is the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer who most notable starred in The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews.
As Celebuzz told you Monday, Catching Fire will film in Atlanta, Georgia. What locations are currently being scouted? Click here to find out.
