'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire': Sam Claflin Cast as Finnick Odair
The 26-year-old Snow White and the Huntsman actor has signed on for the role as of Thursday, reports Gossip Cop.
As Celebuzz previously reported, Claflin, 26, was a frontrunner for the coveted role, along with rumored candidates such as Taylor Kitsch, Robert Pattinson, Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer.
Hunter Parrish, who was reportedly also in the running, recently told Celebuzz that he "wouldn't have made a good Finnick."
So who are the other newcomers to be joining Claflin?
Recently, actress Amanda Plummer and Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman have also joined the cast as Wiress, a District 3 tribute, and Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, respectively.

Meanwhile, Variety is reporting that four-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk) is in talks to play Beetee, an inventor and tribute who has a special knack for making electrified weapons.
Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo is said to be up for the part of 80-year-old tribute Mags. However, Variety reports that it is unlikely she will be cast.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on Nov. 23, 2013. It was also announced recently that Mockingjay, the third and final chapter in the Hunger Games trilogy, will be split into two movies with release dates set for Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015, respectively.

According to a Celebuzz source, Catching Fire is in the pre-production stages with filming locations currently being scouted in Atlanta.
Claflin, as the newest cast member, is best known for his role in this summer’s Snow White and the Huntsman, in which he starred opposite Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. The actor recently spoke to Celebuzz about his bromance with costar Chris Hemsworth; view the video, below.

Unlike Twilight, Hunger Games actually has meaning and a message. This could be our society if the future if we aren't careful. Also, Katniss is sort of a role model to tweens and up. She shows confidence, strength, and courage. Its not just some stupid book series like Twilight where Bella just does nothing but let a werewolf and a vampire fight over her and let the vampire get her pregnant.
I think they hit the nail on the head with this one. I saw Amanda Plummer play a severely schizophrenic woman on Law & Order:SVU, and I don't mean it as an insult when I say: she can play crazy REALLY well.
