'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: Ouija Boards and Creepy Codes
While Tuesday’s episode of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars was entitled “Crazy” it might as well been called “Creepy.” With dolls and codes and new chicks who are eerily similar to Allison (Sasha Pietrese) in town we couldn’t stop our goose bumps from forming.
So much went down in Rosewood during the episode, it was hard to keep it all straight. With new and old information coming to the forefront, it appears our mysteries are getting a little bit clearer.
Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched Tuesday’s episode.
With Hanna (Ashley Benson) as a new suspect in Allison’s murder according to Detective Creepy, I mean, Wilden (Bryce Johnson), Aria (Lucy Hale) was determined to help her friend clear her name. After finding a gift from ‘A,’ an old Ouija board with a pointer supposedly buried with Ali in Hanna’s house, Aria goes straight to the source for some information -- Mona (Janel Parrish).who just won Choice TV Villain at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.)
Apparently back in the day when Mona and Hanna were still BFFs 4-Eva, there was a night the Ouija board told them Alison was A-L-I-V-E. Not only was she still alive, but Hanna claimed to actually see Ali outside the window. She reported the sighting to the DiLaurentises and they’ve never forgiven her since their daughter turned up dead weeks later. Could this be why they’re telling Wilden to put her on the list of suspects?!
Flashback to when Ali’s dad confronted Hanna, and we learn of Mona’s secret code. Essentially like a backwards-mnemonic device, the first letter of each word is put together to give a message.
Cut to what must be the creepiest place in Rosewood, the children’s ward of Radley Sanitarium. It is here that Hanna and Aria find Mona humming and brushing dolls’ hair. Speaking in code, she mutters things like “Ms. Aria, you’re a killer, not Ezra’s (Ian Harding) wife,” “No one to save Ali from evil” and “Where were we, Maya’s away sleeping sweet, until Garrett’s all rosy count on me.” Respectively, these messages translate to ‘Maya Knew,’ ‘Not Safe’ and a website, www.massugar.com. After learning the website is Maya’s, it looks like her death was no coincidence. Which leaves us wondering, just what did Maya know about Allison? And with “A’s” recording of their encounter, what is he/she/it/they going to do with this information?
Speaking of Jason, the boy was having a bit of a rough night. As in, he got into a drunk driving accident. If it weren’t for Spencer saving him and subsequently Toby’s (Keegan Allen) lie, he’d probably be in jail. Here's hoping he gets his act together and can help the girls figure out who really killed his sister.
OMG: Mona’s code leads us to Maya’s (?) website! WHAT? What did Maya know about Allison? What is her connection to Jenna? And to ‘A?’ Is this why she was killed?
Thank you, TV gods.: It was nice to see Aria part of the action this week instead of just hanging around with Ezra. The girl has been pretty boring lately. In fact she had the biggest LOL and possibly best line of the episode, saying, “She’s a slut, let’s go to sleep,” to Hanna about her mom after finding out she’s on her second date of the night.
Awk-ward: Nate calling Emily the most beautiful girl in Rosewood. Pastor Ted (Edward Kerr) hitting on Aria’s mom after dating Hanna’s mom. So much awkwardness in the romance department.
Hotness: Drew Van Acker, running. Enough said.
Fab-u-lous: While not a comment on anyone’s ensemble, Ella’s (Holly Marie Combs) remark to Aria regarding her date attire was priceless: “Why am I asking you? You wear forks as earrings.”
Can. Not. Wait.: Our favorite hacker and former boyfriend of Hanna, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), is back next week and on the case! Will the Liars tell him more about ‘A?’ And will he and Hanna rekindle their relationship?
