Mariah Carey Will Be the 'Toughest Judge' on 'American Idol,' Says Nick Cannon
Mariah Carey is ready to pick up where Simon Cowell left off.
According to the singer's husband Nick Cannon, the "Obsessed" singer, 42, will be a tough judge on American Idol and not let mediocre talent hit the stage.
“She’s very serious about music and singing. She’ll probably be the toughest judge that’s ever been on [the] show,” Cannon told Access Hollywood backstage at Wednesday's America’s Got Talent.
What else can we expect from Carey?
“She’s going to be amazing… people don’t know my wife’s sense of humor," 31-year-old Nick said. "They’re about to get the whole Mariah Carey -- raw and uncut -- and see the woman that I fell in love with.”
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest also championed the new judge.
"I actually called her last night and I said, 'So welcome to the family,'" Seacrest, who is assisting NBC with its Olympic coverage, told TODAY's Matt Lauer in London on Thursday.
He added, "I said, 'What are you going to be like on the show? She said, 'You know how I am: I'm very honest. I say what I'm thinking.' I said, 'Great. You'll fit right in.'"
Carey officially joined American Idol on Monday, following high-profile exits from Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” Carey said in a press release. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show, which is a massive global phenomenon.”
