'The Voice' Adds Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong as Season 3 Mentor
Billie Joe Armstrong has officially signed up to mentor the contestants on The Voice Season 3, the show announced on Twitter Thursday.
The 40-year-old Green Day frontman will work with Christina Aguilera's team when the show returns on Sept. 10, just weeks before Armstrong's band releases its new CD, Uno!, on Sept. 25.
In a press release, Armstrong had only wonderful things to say about the show, saying its successful because "it’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover."
Armstrong -- who began taping the show on Wednesday -- added that working with Aguilera has been "a lot of fun."
Armstrong is the fourth mentor to be added to Season 3. Other mentors include: Mary J. Blige, who will work with Adam Levine's team; Michael Buble, who joins Blake Sheldon's team; and Rob Thomas, who will work alongside Cee Lo Green's team.
In April, Green Day confirmed that they will release a CD trilogy over the next year. In addition to Uno!, the band will release ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! on Nov. 13 and Jan. 15, respectively.
