The CW is giving Joss Whedon fans something to sing about.

The network announced at Monday’s TCA Press Tour in Beverly Hills that it will be airing the cult online favorite, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 9PM.

“I’ve been a big fan of Dr. Horrible,” The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz, says then points out that he previously tried to get the series for ABC Digital when he was at the network.

The musical series created by Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers) in 2008 stars How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris as the title character Billy aka Dr. Horrible. It also stars Castle’s Nathan Fillian and internet darling Felicia Day.

What is Dr. Horrible and will The CW alter it in any way?

The three-part musical series follows Dr. Horrible (Harris), the seemingly unluckiest villain of all time. His big goal is to gain entry into the Evil League of Evil and speak to his Laundromat crush (Day) while keeping her away from the charming Captain Hammer (Fillian).

“We are going to primarily re-edit it for TV,” Pedowitz says of the 42-minute episodes that will be broadcast.

The CW chief also says that he’s being proactive about future episodes of the series. “If Joss does another one, we’ll get a shot at it,” he says.

Conceived during the Writers Guild strike in 2007-2008, the series has been named one of Time’s Top 50 inventions of 2008. And it has been showered with awards including a People’s Choice, a Hugo, a Creative Arts Emmy and several Streamy Awards for web television.

Are you excited to sing along with Harris, Fillian and Day?
