One Direction Expected to Perform at Summer Olympics 2012 Closing Ceremony
The “What Makes You Beautiful” singers are expected to rock the stage at the London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony on August 12, according to Metro UK.
The opening ceremony — which drew a record-setting 40.7 million people, making it the most-watched Olympic opener ever —featured the sounds of Emeli Sande, Dizzee Rascal, Artic Monkeys and Paul McCartney.
But the finale event is gearing up to just as showstopping.
The boy band is expected to be joined by their songwriting pal Ed Sheeran, who penned “Moments” off their debut album and is working on new tunes for their next record.
Niall Horan and Liam Payne have already been soaking up the Olympic spirit. “Don’t know if it’s just me, but the excitement in London is unbelievable!” Niall tweeted. “Its gonna be a great games.”
And Payne revealed his secret desire to compete: “If i wasnt in 1D , running in the olympics would of been my dream :),” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Harry Styles has been hitting the games’ party scene. And during a recent Oxford outing, the pop star was spotted laying a smooch on a blushing bride (see above gallery) — with the groom no where in sight. After bumping into the her on the street, Styles chatted, posed for photos and planted a kiss on the newlywed woman. Luckily, it was all cheek and no lips.
