Emma Watson Denies '50 Shades of Grey' Rumors: 'I Haven't Read the Script'
Emma Watson is denying claims that she's in talks to play Anastasia in the upcoming adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 22-year-old star of the Harry Potter revealed she has read "nothing" related to the project -- not even the bestselling book by EL James.
"There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call," she said. "It was the same way with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – I never even saw a script!"
Watson, who later this summer will appear in the indie dramedy The Perks of Being a Wallflower, went on to say that the 50 Shades rumors got so bad, even her friends and family started asking if they were true.
"I told them just because there are 60 articles on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s any less true than if there are three or four," she said.
Well, so much for that.
This is just the latest rumor to swirl around the upcoming 50 Shades movie, which doesn't even have a cast yet, or a director or, you know, an official script.
Still, that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from churning, linking many high-profile names beyond Watson to the project. Even Oscar winner Angelina Jolie was rumored to be up for the project, but as director.
Released in 2011, 50 Shades tells the story of Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey, two twentysomethings who engage in an explicit sexual affair in Seattle.
