Miley Cyrus' Home Swarmed by Cops After Apparent 'Swatting' Prank (VIDEO)
Miley Cyrus fell victim to a malicious hoax after cops received a prank call warning of a shooting at the young star's Los Angeles home.
Cops raced to the 19-year-old singer's house on Wednesday after receiving a report about a possible home invasion and claiming shots had been fired, TMZ reports. But when armed police and firefighters arrived to the scene, it turned out to be a false alarm in a troubling prank known as "swatting."
What exactly is "swatting"?
"Swatting" is a prank in which a caller tries to trick emergency responders into dispatching law enforcement to a home by making up a serious crime.
Law enforcement told TMZ that if the call was indeed a prank, the caller will be arrested and face criminal charges.
"It's not just bad, it is a crime," an officer told GMA. "And if we find out who it is, we will arrest them and prosecute them."
Cyrus is currently in Philadelphia, where her beau Liam Hemsworth is filming his latest flick, Paranoia.
