Olympics 2012: Gabby Douglas Wins Gold in Women's Gymnastics All-Around
Gabrielle Douglas continued Team USA's hot-streak in women's gymnastics on Thursday by winning an Olympic Gold medal in the Individual All-Around.
Douglas, who just two days ago helped the United States triumph in the team competition, was stunning throughout Thursday's competition, ending her Gold-medal run with a solid 62.232 points.
Finishing in second place was Victoria Komova of Russia (61.973 points), who had entered Thursday's competition as the first-place qualifier. Her teammate, Aliya Mustafina, captured the Bronze.
In somewhat of an unfortunate twist, Aly Raisman of the United States tied Mustafina's score of 59.566 at the end of the competition; however, Raisman was ultimately denied a place on the podium, as the scores from her three strongest events scored lower than Mustafina's.
With a victory in the All-Around, Douglas became the third-consecutive American gymnast to win Gold. She follows Nastia Liukin and Carly Patterson, who triumphed in 2008 and 2004, respectively.
She is also the first American gymnast to win Gold in both the Team and All-Around competition.
Later on in the Games, Douglas will return to the Greenwich Arena to compete in two more individual finals, in Beam and the Uneven Bars.
