Robert Pattinson’s Post-Scandal Media Blitz: ‘Cosmopolis’ Premiere, ‘Daily Show,’ New York Stock Exchange, ‘GMA’ and MTV
Robert Pattinson is finally coming out of hiding following his heartbreak.
The Twilight actor sat down with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show on Monday night for his first interview since news broke of longtime love Kristen Stewart’s headline-grabbing affair with married Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders.
“What have you been up to?” Stewart asked with a smile, before breaking out Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for him and his guest.
“Now we’re just a couple of gals talking,” joked Stewart. “All right, tell me everything.”
And though Pattinson never mentioned his girlfriend by name, he did offer up a little personal tidbit.
“I’m going to sound like an idiot, but my biggest problem in my life is I’m cheap, and I didn’t hire a publicist,” a good-spirited Pattinson revealed. “And in every awkward interview, normally, actors get these things scripted. I’m going to hire a publicist.”
“I think you should,” agreed Stewart, “unless you have a time machine.” Pattinson retorted, “Either way.”
“Listen, the last time I had a bad breakup, Ben and Jerry got me through some of the tougher times,” the comedian hared. “So, I thought you and I could bond over this and talk about, ‘Boy, you are better off. Kick her to the curb! Whatever!”
That pulled a big smile out of Pattinson, who did not correct Stewart’s assumption that he and his Twilight costar had officially called it quits.
“When you are young and you break up, it’s powerful and it feels like the world is ending,” Stewart added. “But this is the first time I have seen the world actually react that way. It’s insanity. … Here is my wish for you: That you get to handle your business in private, in your personal life, and I wish you all the best.”
Then Pattinson finally tried to switch the subject to his career, joking, “I should’ve talked about Cosmopolis!”
Though this was his first post-scandal interview, Pattinson had already stepped back into the spotlight earlier Monday as he hit the red carpet for the premiere of his new David Cronenberg-directed drama, Cosmopolis.
Now with his first appearances under his belt, Pattinson will face more prying questions from the media as continues to promote his new flick. On Tuesday morning, Pattinson took to the New York Stock Exchange with Cronenberg to ring the opening bell in a plug for their flick, which hits theaters Aug. 17.
Then Pattinson will be in the hot seat on Good Morning America on Wednesday. And on Thursday, Pattinson is set to chat with MTV about his career and reveal an exclusive Cosmopolis clip.
