We’ve been on the reality show watch for Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte’s reality show announcement, but he surprised us by going a different route.

The CW announced on Tuesday that the 28-year-old will be guest starring on its upcoming fifth season of 90210 in an episode airing Monday, Oct. 29 at 8 PM.

What’s Lochte doing in Beverly Hills?

Well, he puts a proverbial toe in the scripted television waters by playing himself. The 11-time Olympic medalist will make a cameo as a guest at a resort where Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and Max (Josh Zuckerman) are working on their relationship.

“When we found out Ryan Lochte was going to be in town and might appear on 90210, we felt like we'd won a gold medal! Team USA are all-stars in our book, and we're so excited he's making an appearance on the show,” executive producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen said in a joint statement.

That’s the good news. Here’s the bad news: Sounds like he’ll be totally clothed.

“We only wish the episode was a surf event so we could have gotten him in the water, but he deserves a little rest on dry land,” the EPs added.

Last week, Lochte’s agent confirmed the swimmer was fielding several reality TV offers. And Lochte said on NBC's Today that he wouldn’t mind dating on-camera for ABC’s The Bachelor or getting his groove on for Dancing With the Stars.

Lochte would be the first person to from this Summer’s Olympics to land a scripted TV role. As far as reality shows go, runner Sanya Richards-Ross was the first to sign on for an unscripted TV show with WE. And over the weekend, Lochte’s biggest Team USA competition, Michael Phelps, announced he’ll be learning golf on the upcoming season of the Golf Channel’s The Haney Project.

90210's fifth season debuts Monday, Oct. 8 at 8 PM on The CW.
