‘The Real World’ Star Joey Kovar Dead: 3 New Developments

1. Cause of Kovar’s Death is Still Unknown
According to the Chicago Tribune, the autopsy conducted on Saturday is inconclusive. Though some media outlets report reality star died from an overdose of a combination cocaine, Viagra and alcohol, officials say no official cause of death has been found pending further test.
2. Kovar’s Relatives Don’t Believe the Drug Claims
Kovar’s brother, David, tells the Tribune that the former Celebrity Rehab cast member was “doing better” since getting clean, saying, “Everything was going very well. The very, very last thing that our family is suspecting is drugs.”
3. The MTV Family Comes Together
Former castmates and fellow MTV stars react to the tragic news on Twitter.
“RIP Joey Kovar my heart breaks,” tweets Kovar’s Celebrity Rehab castmate Mackenzie Phillips. “My love and prayers go out to your family.”
Road Rules veteran Mark Long also tweets his condolences, writing, “RIP Joey Kovar #sad”
“Sad news about Joey Kovar,” adds Katie Doyle, another “Road Rules” alum. “Never do drugs. #RIP”
Real World: Cancun‘s CJ Koegel also expresses his sadness about Kovar’s death through Twitter, and includes a link to a photo of Kovar with the words “We lost a member of our family but he will never be forgotten” written underneath. The photo is re-tweeted by Real World: New Orleans cast member Ryan Knight, who adds, “RIP Joey way too young.”
Kovar was discovered unconscious with blood coming out of his nose and mouth Friday, according a report by TMZ.
The Illinois native struggled with alcohol and drug abuse in the past, entering rehab halfway through his season of the Real World in 2008. He also sought treatment for cocaine and ecstasy addictions through the help of Dr. Drew on Celebrity Rehab in 2010.
In a statement released to Celebuzz, an MTV Network spokesperson said: “MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Joey Kovar of The Real World: Hollywood has passed away. We offer our sympathies to Joey’s loved ones, friends and fans.”
