'Live! With Kelly' Expected to Announce Michael Strahan as Permanent Co-Host (REPORT)
Just a day after it was announced that a permanent co-host was picked to sit alongside Kelly Ripa on Live! with Kelly, reports are coming out Tuesday that the one chosen for the coveted spot is Michael Strahan.
According to Broadcasting & Cable, the former NFL player and current FOX football correspondent has nabbed the job after co-hosting multiple times throughout the almost year-long vacancy.
The former New York Giants player has been considered one of the top contenders for the position along with SNL writer/ Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers and singer Josh Groban. The LA Times reported that he’ll keep his Sunday gig with FOX on FOX NFL Sunday.
Regis Philbin retired from the popular daytime talk show in November of 2011 after 28 seasons. Since then it has used 59 celebrities including Ripa’s Husband, Mark Consuelos, Neil Patrick Harris and Anderson Cooper.
Ripa’s new co-host will begin his duties on September 4th after a season opener featuring Ripa hosting the show solo. The September 4th telecast will include guest Claire Danes and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips.
An ABC spokespoerson told Celebuzz's there is no comment on co-host speculation.
The new season of Live! With Kelly begins September 3.
