Mariah Carey is hard at work on her new film, The Butler.

The award-winning singer -- and newest American Idol judge -- was spotted on the movie's New Orleans set on Monday.  The cast of the film is a veritable who’s who of Hollywood: Forest WhitakerOprah Winfrey, Lenny KravitzJohn Cusack, Robin Williams, Minka Kelly, James Marsden, Alex Pettyfer and Cuba Gooding Jr. are all set to appear in it.

What is Carey's role in the Lee Daniels-directed picture?

The 42-year-old, who was photographed on set in a brown maxi dress, heels and head scarf, will play Hattie Pearl. The Butler is the story of a White House butler, played by Forest Whitaker, who served eight American presidents over the course of three decades.

This isn’t the first time the songstress has worked with Daniels. She collaborated with the director on the critically acclaimed 2009 film, Precious. That film won two Oscars including Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. The latter was awarded to Mo’Nique.

Meanwhile, Carey is still the only confirmed member of the judge’s table for the upcoming season of Idol. As reported by Celebuzz, rumors are swirling that Nicki Minaj may be joining her, along with Enrique Iglesias.

Nick Jonas also confirmed to fans via twitter that he was in consideration for a seat at the table.

Ohhh, that Daily News phhsotooot. One of my all-time faves (yes, I know, I say that about every phhsotooot, but what can you do? ) The new ones are great and I guess the one Karo linked to is my favourite too, alongside the shot through his arm into the mirror.
