Phillip Phillips Debuts Original Song ‘Take Me Away’ — Listen Now (VIDEO)

American Idol winner Phillip Phillips debuted on Tuesday an original song before a small audience at Mix 106.1 in Philadelphia.

The mid-tempo track, titled “Take Me Away,” is, for lack of a better comparison, very Dave Matthews-esque. The ditty tells the story of a man who desperately wants his lady friend to pull him out of his funk.

“Won’t you take me from the clouds buried in grey,” Phillips, 21, croons. “All the colors are mixing in my head.”

No word on whether “Take Me Away” will appear on the season 11 winner’s much-anticipated freshman album.

Phillips recently experienced a resurgence on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts; last week, his Idol-winning track “Home” shot to number nine, after heavy promotion during the 2012 London Olympics.
