Prince Harry's Nude Photo Scandal: 4 Latest Developments
Just after the cheeky shots of him cavorting nude in Las Vegas with a mystery woman sparked a media storm, the third-in-line to the British throne sheepishly stepped out in Los Angeles ahead of his flight back to the United Kingdom.
Wearing a blue button-down, a panama hat and shades, Prince Harry chatted with pals on Tuesday afternoon near a Venice Beach eatery. After avoiding prying questions from a reporter, the royal ducked into a dark SUV and was escorted to LAX Airport, where he hopped on a homeward-bound flight.
What will Harry face when he arrives back in Britain?
Well, there's sure to be fallout, both within his family and the British Army Air Corps, in which he is an Apache helicopter pilot.
During a recent night in Las Vegas, a camera caught Prince Harry cavorting nude with a mystery woman in a private suite. In two blurred photos published by TMZ, Queen Elizabeth‘s grandson, 27, covers his crown jewels as he clings to a nearly naked female.
According to TMZ, the snaps were taken after Harry and his pals went down to the hotel bar and invited some women, who have not been identified, to their VIP suite at the Wynn hotel.
And the scandal continues to spur new developments. Celebuzz has the latest, below.
1. British newspapers have been asked not to go to press with the snaps. Clarence House — office of Harry's father, Prince Charles — has requested that in-country publications do not use the photos of Prince Harry in the buff, claiming there is an implied privacy violation in a visitor snapping the cell phone pictures while in Harry's private hotel suite, according to E!. While they legally cannot compel such an embargo, but most outlets are respecting the request. The royals reportedly made the demand to the Press Complaints Commission (a regulatory agency), citing the third clause of the PCC Editor's Code of Practice: "It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places without their consent."
2. Prince Harrry's bare behind makes him an internet sensation. According to the Daily Mail, "Prince Harry naked" was Googled more than 68 million times around the globe.
3. Royal family is furious with Harry's team. After a night of partying, Prince Harry and his pals invited several girls up to their VIP suite. According to TMZ, as the visitors stepped into the room, the unidentified women were not asked to hand over their cell phones — the devices ultimately used to document Prince Harry's naked romp. As the ladies began to snap revealing shots, Harry's minders did little to stop it, simply saying, "Awww, come on...No photos," according to TMZ.
4. The father of one of Prince Harry's friends came to the royal rogue's defense. Alex van Straubenzee, whose son Tom is a lifelong friend of the prince, told BBC the story of Harry's nude scandal is just “tittle-tattle” and that he's "a very easy target" for the press. "More than anything he is a British soldier," he said. "He has a very, very good qualification in the job he does for the Army and I think this is what people will look at."
