Alicia Keys Releases ‘Girl On Fire’ Single Featuring Nicki Minaj Ahead of VMA Performance
The Grammy-winning singer’s new single, “Girl on Fire (Inferno)” was released Monday. The tune is one of three versions — including an original recording and a Bluelight release — of the title track off her upcoming fifth studio album.
The midtempo track opens with rap queen Nicki Minaj dropping her first of two verses, before Keys kicks in with her trademark booming vocals soaring over a steady hip-hop bottom beat. “She’s just a girl and she’s on fire,” Keys belts out. “Hotter than a fantasy, hit me like a highway/ She’s livin’ in a world and it’s on fire/ Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away.”
And soon the world will see Keys debut the tune live.
On Thursday, Keys will give the first-ever performance of her brand-new, high-powered single at the MTV 2012 Video Music Awards.
And this isn’t the first time the singer has premiered a single at the VMAs. Back in 2007, Keys debuted “No One” at the awards show, before the love ballad went on to blaze the Billboard charts.
Keys Girl On Fire album drops on Nov. 27, featuring collaborations with Babyface, Gary Clarke Jr., Emeli Sandé, and Pop & Oak, among others.
Just last month, Swizz Beatz’s wife announced her album title on her site. “I’m in the studio right now working away on my new album and I am SO excited!!!” she wrote. “I’m ignited!!! I’m like a match to a flame! I’ve had the title of this album in my mind for a long time… It’s been hard to hold it back and now I’m not holding it back anymore! It is called Girl on Fire!!! And that’s exactly how I feel!!!”
