Green Day Set to Perform at the MTV VMAs Following Billie Joe Armstrong's Hospitalization
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is ready to rock!
The iconic garage band is ready to make its grand return to the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards stage Thursday night, despite a recent health scare for Armstrong. The frontman fell ill Sunday night, forcing the band to cancel its show in Bologna, Italy.
What happened to Armstrong?
After falling ill, the singer was rushed to a hospital for undisclosed reasons.
"We sincerely apologize to our fans, but unfortunately due to illness Billie Joe has been hospitalized, and we regretfully must cancel our performance in Bologna, Italy this evening," bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool said in a video statement posted on their site on Monday. "We are beyond devastated and will make it up to you when we come back next summer."
However, the three-time VMA performers are ready to make it up to fans Thursday night. Green Day will debut a song off the first record in its upcoming album trilogy, ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tre!. The band recently premiered the music video for its latest single, "Kill the DJ."
Joining Green Day on the VMA stage are first-timers One Direction, pop star Taylor Swift, Pink and newcomer Frank Ocean, as well as newly announced collaborations featuring Rihanna with A$AP Rocky and another with the night's house DJ, Calvin Harris.
