Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong 'Picked up a Bug, Food Poisoning,' Reveals Singer's Mom (EXCLUSIVE)
Four days after Bille Joe Armstrong was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness, the rocker's mother has revealed what struck down the famed frontman.
“He picked up a bug or it was food poisoning -- they’re not really exactly sure," Ollie Armstrong told Celebuzz, on the eve of the band's performance on Thursday's MTV VMAs.
“There was nothing he could do. He was extremely sick."
As Celebuzz previously reported, diehard fans were disappointed over the weekend when the band was forced to cancel a show in Bolognia, Italy, because Armstrong was hospitalized under doctor’s orders.
“I talked to him this morning (Wednesday) and he told me he’s okay,” Ollie added.
“The doctors had to take care of him right away -- and he was dehydrating from being so sick. He’s on antibiotics and recovering.”
So, will the band be performing in L.A. on Thursday?
"We're ready to rock, we're gonna be here, we're gonna have a good time," band member Mike Dirnt told MTV.
"We're going to drink chicken blood"
Dirnt promised Green Day would return to Italy to play the cancelled show; the band even took to their own website to express how sorry they were for canceling the show.
"We're beyond upset," said drummer Tre Cool in a video posted on the band's website. "We're as sad as you guys are. Billie is extremely upset about it."
Armstrong, 40, was recently seen at the airport in Los Angeles after being discharged.
“Things like this usually last 24 hours, but he had to fly back to (the U.S.) and it made it worse,” his mom added.
“He just hated to miss his last show (in Italy).”
