Even though the outrageous reality show earned its TV stripes by beating out the Republican National Convention in viewership, the ratings took a dive when it tied CNN’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The hit TLC series, which premiered a month ago, attracted 2.4 million viewers on Wednesday – a 20 percent drop from the previous week, according to Nielsen ratings.

Why did the ratings drop?

But Boo Boo and and all her redneck ridiculousness can hold back the tears – the episode still had the second-highest audience in its brief TV time on air.

In the key adults 18-49 demographic, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Honey Boo Boo’s numbers fell just over nine percent (a tenth of a point) to a 1.1 adults rating.

In a showdown with Bill Clinton, who addressed the nation, the tyrant toddler’s new spin-off surprisingly was neck-and-neck with CNN’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention — among 18-49 year-olds on cable.
