Now that’s how you avoid an awkward run-in.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart each made separate public appearances on Thursday, as the couple begins to emerge from their highly publicized cheating scandal.

Pattinson, 26, was on hand at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, where he presented a brand-new clip from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part II alongside co-stars Taylor Lautner, Elizabeth Reaser and more.

Stewart, meanwhile, was thousands of miles away from Pattinson — Canada, to be exact — where she was busy promoting her new movie, On the Road, at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

This marked the first public outing for Stewart, 22, since she was caught cheating on Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, in July.

But while the dust of the scandal has yet to settle for the young actress, you’d never guess it by her red carpet appearance on Thursday. In fact, she was mostly smiles as she posed for photographs, donning a gorgeous floral-printed dress.

She was previously spotted catching a flight out of LAX earlier this week.

As for Pattinson — who already did the media round in August to promote Cosmopolis — he mostly kept a low profile at the VMAs, speaking a line or two before handing off the clip presentation to his co-stars.

On the Road hits theaters on Dec. 21.
