Amy Winehouse’s Birthday: The Late Singer Through the Years (GALLERY)
On Friday, in what would’ve her 29th birthday, the charity that was set up in the late singer’s name announced it had raised £230,000 (approximately $US 373,129) since her death.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was established by the “Rehab” crooner’s father Mitch, also pledged to raise £500,000 by the end of the year to support “young people, especially those who are in need by reason of ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction.”
How else has Winehouse’s death affect her fans?
The Amy Winehouse Foundation have used the proceeds from Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a posthumous collection of unreleased recordings that released last December, to pay for a full scholarships to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, a school which Winehouse attended as a teenager.
The album debuted at the top of the UK albums chart and has since gone double platinum.
Winehouse died on July 23, 2011 and her dead at her north London home. Coroners later confirmed that Winehouse, who had battled drink and drug addiction for several years, had died of alcohol poisoning.
