NBC’s The Voice is joining other singing competitions like American Idol and The X Factor in creating a shakeup on the coaching panel.

The network announced on Monday that pop star Christina Aguilera and funk singer Cee Lo Green will be sitting out Season 4. They’ll be replaced by soul singer Usher and Latin pop star Shakira.

“We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to The Voice. The addition of these popular iconic artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement.

Aguilera will be leaving to promote and tour with her new album, Lotus, out Nov. 13. And Green will be working on his upcoming solo album, new Goodie Mob album, his Las Vegas residency Loberace, a memoir and a new NBC comedy.

“Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and CeeLo,” Greenblatt added. ” The participants on our show benefit from our coaches’ expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return.”

Green said he will return for Season 5 while Aguilera stated that she will be back in the future, but didn’t specify when.

Executive Producer Mark Burnett told reporters over the summer that he expected the panel to change as the coaches continued to pursue their music careers, but says that they will have the coaching spot for life.

Since releasing his first album in 1997, Usher, 33, has sold more than 23 million albums in the U.S. alone and more than 65 million albums worldwide. He has also won seven Grammy awards.

Shakira, 35, crossed over from Latin music to pop with her 2001 single, “Whenever, Wherever.” She has won two Grammy awards and eight Latin Grammys and has been nominated for a Golden Globe. She has sold more than 70 million albums worldswide.

The Voice premiered its third season last week with three days of its unique blind auditions. It airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 PM on NBC.
