After insulting Pippa Middleton back in August, Chanel's creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, attempted to make amends with the Middleton women during a recent interview with Grazia magazine.

The Chanel designer, who has never been known to hold back his opinions, bluntly told Grazia back in August, "I don't like the sister's [Pippa's] face...She should only show her back." Ouch.

But now Lagerfeld is singing a different tune, downplaying his criticism of Kate Middleton's little sis. Still, don't expect Pippa Middleton to become one of the designer's muses anytime soon.

"I didn't mean that! I only meant I don't think her make-up is right; she has a roundish face and round eyes and she should pick another make-up for the eyes," Lagerfeld clarified in another interview with Grazia last week.

How has the outspoken designer's opinion of Kate Middleton changed?

Despite the still-unfolding topless photo scandal, Kate Middleton should still be able to count Lagerfeld among her fans.

Last time he spoke to Grazia, the eccentric designer complemented the Duchess' style and looks, calling her a perfect match for Prince William.

"Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy. I like that kind of woman. I like romantic beauties," Lagerfeld told Grazia.

The designer continued to praise the Duchess of Cambridge in his more recent interview with the magazine. Unlike Pippa, her sister can wear whatever make-up she likes, according to the designer.

"Kate Middleton! I love Kate Middleton! She can try anything. For make-up she has no limits!" Lagerfeld told Grazia.

But the most surprising part of the interview wasn't about Kate or Pippa.

Turns out that Kate and Pippa's mom, Carole Middleton, has stolen the 79-year-old designer's heart.

"I think Carole is very sexy. I think the mother is sexier than the daughters. There is something full of life about her," Lagerfeld told Grazia.  "For a woman who must be 50 or so I think she's great. Full of energy."

While the Middleton sisters have long been compared, Carole, 57, has gotten more attention for her breaches of etiquette (ahem, chewing gum!) than for her appearance. But one look at the brunette mom-of-three and it's clear where her daughters get their good looks -- and great style. Kate has even been photographed in the same duds as her mom.

For the record, we think all three Middleton women are stunning.  What do you think -- which Middleton has your vote?
