‘Awkward’ Cast Previews Season Finale: Jenna Has Two Big Choices to Make
After two seasons, and trying out both guys, Jenna finally makes her choice in the season finale, “The Other Shoe.” But, that’s not all she’ll have to decide on Thursday’s season finale.
Will Jenna choose Jake or Matty or simply “herself”?
“It’s about her following her heart. She’s got a tendency to think things out and blog things out, and this time she just goes with her gut. She goes with what she knows, what she knew, and she moves towards what feels right,” Awkward series star Rickards told Celebuzz when we caught up with her on the red carpet for the show’s special finale party.
But what is right for Jenna in the moment may not be right for her long-term. And it really may not be right for everyone in her life. No matter which way you slice it, not everyone can walk away happy because, as Beau Mirchoff pointed out, both guys are still into her.
“[Jake and Matty] are still friends, at least on the outside,” Mirchoff smirked.
“I suspect whoever [Jenna] doesn’t pick will still have some issues. They both love her; they’re both infatuated with her in this crazy way. It’s going to suck forever she doesn’t pick. It’s unfortunate.”
If you’re worried that the final frame of the season will be Jenna making her choice, well, you haven’t been paying close enough attention to this show. Series creator Lauren Iungerich always provides much more closure than that, and this episode is no different. You will get to see the aftermath of Jenna’s decision.
The finale episode isn’t all about the love triangle, though. Mirchoff added that a lot happens and “the last moments of the episode really leave the viewer with a sense of longing.”
Sadie (Molly Tarlov) is dealing with boy troubles of her own.
“We see her struggling a little bit with where she stands with Ricky, and I don’t believe in ‘once a cheater, always a cheater,’ but maybe in high school I do. I think men can change their ways as they get older, but in high school, if they’re a cheater, they’ll still be a cheater in the same year of high school,” Tarlov previewed.
And then there is Lissa (Greer Grammer) who has been standing by her friends without a guy of her own. But maybe not for long.
“There is a little hint [of a love interest] in the season finale, but not much goes with it right now,” Grammer teased. “Season 3, I’m hoping; my fingers are crossed! Let her meet a boy at church!”
While the kids still struggle to find “the one they want to be with, though,” Jenna’s parents (Mike Faiola and Nikki DeLoach) are at least “officially back together,” per DeLoach. And they’re onto more pressing concerns, like their daughter potentially jetting off to Europe without them. That’s right, Jenna has two big decisions to make in a very short amount of time!
“I know that Lacey’s never been separated from her daughter, so I think that’s going to be very tough for her, but outside of that, I think Lacey’s a character that would want her daughter to do that,” DeLoach shared.
But Faiola was a bit more protective. “Any father of a teenage daughter might be a little leery of letting her go to Europe at the age of what, sixteen, seventeen? He’s very protective, but that’s why he gave her that economy-sized box of condoms,” he reminded. “Hoping it lasts through Christmas into summer vacation, so if she goes to Europe, she can protect herself.“
Awkward will air its second season finale on MTV on Thursday at 10:30 PM.
