'X Factor' Recap: Panda Ross Came, She Conquered, She Left in an Ambulance (VIDEO)
On this second week of FOX’s The X Factor, Simon Cowell took a sick day and then returned with a vengeance. And you know you’re doing something right when both the police and the paramedics are called to your auditions.
The hour was full of dramatic stories and touching auditions from Kansas City, San Francisco and Austin. Along the way, we wished record producer and judge L.A. Reid a happy birthday and were reminded several times of the show’s very serious $5 million prize.
So, what did we learn about the judges from Wednesday’s auditions?
Simon likes pandas. Panda Ross, 42, says she broke herself out of the hospital where she was being treated for pneumonia in order to come to the auditions. What makes Panda special? She has a deep love for laughter, her friends and family and Simon. She went through a lot to give America a “lil piece of panda pie” and she did not disappoint. Singing Sam Cooke’s Bring It On Home,” girl got the judges and the entire audience on her side. Who doesn't love Panda?
Later, I guess when the adrenaline died down, her pneumonia got the best of her and she had to be rushed to the hospital. But, she got her wish: She was able to get on the show and profess her love to Simon. And he told her he likes pandas and suggests there may be a chance there… Watch her amazing performance above.
Demi Lovato loves country music. Have you ever heard someone say they love all kinds of music “except country”? Well, I have and it always makes me wonder if the person knows how close-minded they sound. Well, pop star and judge Demi earned my respect after she exclaimed her love for country music after hearing Tate Stevens.
Tate -- a 37-year-old father from Belton, Mo. – has had to push his musical career aside to provide for his family. He performed a very stirring rendition of Randy Houser’s "Anything Goes." It had his family crying, the audience on their feet and earned the title of Britney Spears’ favorite audition so far.
L.A. doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Deangelo Wallace, a 19-year-old student, trash-talked the judges from the time he was lining up outside to the point in which he took the stage when he began to claim he was a better singer than L.A.’s child prodigy Justin Bieber. While singing a horrific version of Chris Brown’s “With You,” L.A. staged a walkout for the judges. I believe they gave him the benefit of the doubt by saying Deangelo was making a joke out of the whole thing. I think Deangelo really thinks he can sing… And that's much worse, poor thing.
So, how does he respond to the judges walking out on his audition? He decided to leave with the production’s $3,000 microphone. He didn’t get too far, though, before the police had him cuffed and off to the station, no doubt singing horribly all the way to jail.
Britney Spears still loves the boy band look. It may be eons ago since Britney and Justin Timberlake were an item, but she still seems to like that boy band look and she doesn’t do a good job of hiding it. She smiled from ear to ear when guy group Citizen hit the stage and then later when a handsome duo auditioned and she said she wished they could wake her up in the morning -- which Britney then realized could have a dirty double meaning. Well, who can blame the pop princess?
