Demi Lovato Stands Up to Bullying, Surprises Students in New York for New 'Mean Stinks' Campaign (PHOTOS)
For X Factor judge Demi Lovato, standing up to bullying is a cause that's close to her heart.
The 20-year-old singer was a victim of bullying when she was in middle school. The teasing was so bad that it's part of what led her to seek treatment for issues like an eating disorder and cutting in 2010.
Now that Lovato has successfully faced her demons, she is drawing on her painful teenage years as the new ambassador for Secret deodorant's "Mean Stinks" campaign, so that no other teen should have to go through the same experience.

As part of the campaign, the former Disney star surprised students at an assembly at The Young Women's Leadership School in East Harlem, N.Y., on Thursday morning.
Lovato shared her story and encouraged students to pledge to have a "Drama Free School Year" by making a colorful pinky promise. Students took the anti-bullying pledge by wearing blue nail polish on their pinky fingers.
At the event, Lovato rocked an ultra-trendy top knot, showing off her new blunt bangs. On Wednesday, Lovato debuted her new 'do, tweeting, ”Guess what’s back, back, back, back again….. BANGS are back, back, back tell your friends….”
