Donny Osmond Thinks One Direction Fans Will Turn Their Backs on the Boy Band
In a recent interview with the UK’s OK! magazine, the 70s teen idol opened up about his fall from the pop charts. “My fans started throwing Donny Osmond record burning parties and would send me pictures,” he said.
However, when asked if he’s forgiven his fans for “turning their backs on him,” Osmond replied, “Yes, because I understand it. The same thing is going to happen with Justin Bieber and One Direction. It’s a natural phenomenon.”
However, it doesn’t look like One Direction or Bieber need to worry about their popularity plummeting any time soon.
1D already has one No. 1 album under its belt and now the boys are hoping that lightning strikes twice for their sophomore album, Take Me Home.
That shouldn’t be a problem considering One Direction released the video for their new single, “Live While We’re Young,” just five days ago, and it already has 25 million views on YouTube. Not to mention that their summer 2013 world tour is already sold out.
Meanwhile, Bieber’s single “As Long As You Love Me” is currently No. 6 on the Billboard chart, thanks to his more-than 28 million Beliebers.
As for longevity, perhaps these teen idols can learn a thing or two from The Backstreet Boys, who have been defying the odds for the past 20 years. And yes, that’s before Bieber and the boys of 1D were even born.
When asked what advice they have for the teen idols of today, Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean told Celebuzz, “We’ve stayed true to ourselves and here we are 20 years later. Just stay on your own path and you do your own kind of thing. And we all wish them the best of luck.”
