Brooklyn-bred Jay-Z is back home.

Not only is the music mogul christening the brand-new Barclays Center with an eight-show run beginning Friday, but Jay hosted the grand opening of his 40/40 Club at the arena on Thursday night.

With friends, family and protégés J. Cole and Rihanna on hand, Hova welcomed patrons — including Gossip Girl's Tika Sumpter, Roots drummer Questlove and singer Adrienne Bailon — to his posh and polished nighttime spot, whose flagship location stands in Manhattan's Flatiron district. The venue is just one of many bars, lounges and restaurants in the newly-erected Barclays Center, which is now home to the newborn Brooklyn Nets — the team that Jay-Z, as part owner of the NBA franchise, was instrumental in bringing to the arena. In fact, the multi-talented Hova even designed the team's new black-and-white logo.

How was Hova feeling during his big night?

"I walked around here earlier and I just seen everybody busy and at work trying to finish up and it was a great feeling," MTV quotes Jay-Z as saying as he entered the club. "A guy stopped me in the hallway and said, 'Man this is a great thing for New York City.' And that's what the whole thing was about."

And Hova will continue to celebrate the city's new multimillion-dollar arena Friday night. The rapper is heading back to Barclays to kick off a string of sold-out shows, beginning with his much-anticipated inaugural performance. "It's like a gift to Brooklyn to have this, to all us Brooklynites, to have this arena and this team," Jay-Z told Billboard. "We just want to celebrate this team since it's the first since the Dodgers," referring to the departure of Brooklyn's beloved baseball franchise to Los Angeles more than 50 years ago.

And he's not the only artist hosting concerts at the Brooklyn venue. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Green Day and Brooklyn native Barbra Streisand are all set to rock out in the big-budget complex. Barclays will also open its doors to college basketball and boxing events.

The Nets will take on the New York Knicks in their first game at the Barclays Center on Nov. 1.
