Seth MacFarlane to Host 2013 Oscars
Seth MacFarlane, the man behind the uber-popular FOX animated series Family Guy, will host the 2013 Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday.
"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," MacFarlane — who is fresh off a successful run as host of Saturday Night Live — said in a statement. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
"We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," added telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."
This will be MacFarlane's first time hosting the Oscars. He follows last year's host, Billy Crystal.
The Academy has struggled to find a reliable host that can gel with TV audiences, both new and old. In the last decade, they've tried out everyone from Hugh Jackman and Chris Rock to the now-infamous pairing of James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
The 85th Annual Academy Awards air Sunday, Feb. 24, on ABC.
