Red Carpet Favorite Marchesa Designs Jerseys for NFL (PHOTOS)

Known for its glam gown, Marchesa is a red carpet — and aisle staple (Blake Lively wore a Marchesa wedding gown for her recent nuptials to Ryan Reynolds).

So Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman‘s latest venture comes as a shock to both the fashion — and football — worlds. That’s right — football. Chapman — whose husband, Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is a Jets fan — teamed up with the NFL to design limited-edition jerseys for the New York Jets.

What spurred this unlikely collaboration?

The idea actually came from the wife of New York Jets’ owner Woody Johnson, Suzanne, who asked Chapman to design the jerseys.

Putting the Marchesa spin on the sporty tops, Chapman reworked the jerseys in a sexier, more feminine silhouette encrusted with Swarovski crystal. Three versions were designed, including two couture versions, one of which Chapman modeled at the launch party last night.

If the thought of Tim Teebo and Eva Longoria‘s new beau Mark Sanchez tackling Tom Brady in bedazzled jerseys has reignited your interest in football, we have some bad news: The Marchesa jerseys won’t make their way onto the field. But the good news is (for Jets fans at least): One of the styles (worn by Suzanne Johnson at the launch party) is available at the Jet’s store,, for $110.

Designed with the football team’s female fans in mind, Chapman recently talked to about the collaboration:

“It’s been a year in the making and I can’t wait to unveil the Marchesa shirt for the masses, a real fashion forward statement for female fans that elevates team apparel,” Chapman told “My design philosophy centers on the dramatic and feminine; beading, embellishments, and lace are an integral part of the Marchesa aesthetic. It was instinctive to approach the Jets piece in the same manner. I am so pleased with the end result and hope fans will wear it with pride.”

And it looks like the Jets’ female fans aren’t the only ones who will be ditching their men’s jerseys in favor of the stylish Marchesa-designed tees. There are plans for Marchesa to roll out jerseys for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Redskins next.
