You may recognize Autumn Reeser from any number of television shows: The O.C., Entourage, No Ordinary Family or even Hawaii Five-0.

Now she is playing the aggressively determined weapons lobbyist Kylie Sinclair on ABC’s intense new show, Last Resort. A notorious rich girl working for her daddy’s company, she has developed a weapon prototype, which allows a submarine, in this case, the USS Colorado, to essentially go invisible.

With the sub taking refuge on the island of Sainte Marina after it was attacked by its own country, her “baby” is now in jeopardy and she is determined to get to the bottom of why the US attacked and why the country is now on the brink of nuclear war.

Celebuzz spoke with Reeser on Monday about the changes her character is going through and her relationships with those left in Washington D.C.

Celebuzz: Your character is extremely ambitious and has a do whatever it takes attitude. Yet, she’s learning that sometimes do-whatever-it-takes can hurt those who are helping her. How is that affecting her? Autumn Reeser: Kylie is changing a lot in the show because up until now DC has been a cushiony playground for her up until our pilot. All of a sudden, Washington becomes a very dangerous place so that’s forcing her to change and adjust a lot. The fun thing about Kylie is she’s whip smart. She’s adaptable and she does change. Most of the show she’s in a place of constant change of redefining who she is and what’s important to her.

Up until now she’s been self-serving and it’s worked great for her. Right now the questions becomes do I do the right thing because it’s the right thing for me or do I make a decision because it’s the right thing to do?

CB: You went and confronted Grace’s father, Admiral Shepard (Bruce Davison), in the pilot about the conspiracy. It seems the two of you will have to work hand-in-hand to uncover what really happened and why. What can you tell us about your relationship with him? AR: Kylie has very few allies in DC and very few people she can trust. Even the people she thinks she can trust, she can’t. Admiral Shepard sort of becomes an island of someone she really can trust because he has personal interest in what’s going on on the island because his daughter’s there. So she does feel that she can truly trust him. That is a rare thing in the new landscape of Washington D.C. It’s a very valuable relationship for Kylie and a very dangerous one as well for both of them. They have to watch their backs.

CB: Is anyone aware of them working together? AR: That’s a good question. I think a good thing to keep in mind is that there’s always a chance that someone has seen them. Someone higher up knows what’s going on.

CB: We’ve been lucky enough to see the next two episodes of the show and got to meet your dad. From what we’ve seen, he will play a big role on the show and possibly within the conspiracy. What can you tell us about that? AR: Everything Kylie’s done has been approved by her dad up until now. She works for her dad’s company. She’s good at sales for the company. They’ve been on the same team for all of Kylie’s life and now all of a sudden they might be playing for different teams. That’s going to change the fabric of their relationship and it’s going to ask some hard questions of Kylie. What side are you on? What’s more important, loyalty to family or doing the right thing? Loyalty to family or truth?

CB: With all of her personal investment into this weapon and digging through the conspiracy, will we ever see Kylie headed to Sainte Marina or in contact with the sailors there? AR: I could totally see that happening. I think right now Kylie best serves the storyline by getting to the bottom of the conspiracy in DC because she might be the only person that can do that. She’s in a very unique position. That I think is where her storyline needs to be right now but I absolutely. I have some theories about how she could end up on the island. I would love to end up on the island at some point. It looks lovely.
