'Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars': Two Champions Say Goodbye in Shocking Double Elimination (VIDEO)
The results proved shocking, as we said goodbye to two former champions, neither of whom held the bottom score on the leaderboard.
Note: Spoilers ahead if you didn’t watch Tuesday’s episode.
Drew Lachey (Season 2) and Helio Castroneves (Season 5) were sent home on the season’s first double elimination week after their performance scores were tabulated with their viewer votes. Joining them in jeopardy, but saved were Kirstie Alley and Sabrina Bryan. While Helio did suffer a mishap in his quickstep, Drew did not. Drew’s cha cha was technically sound, energetic and entertaining, as seen in the video above. What might have hurt him is dancing first on Monday, a placement many see as a disadvantage.
At the end of the hour, Helio was eliminated despite being tied in third place with three other couples. An upbeat Helio offered his gratitude: “I want to thank America, you guys voted for me… I couldn’t be happier, thank you.”
What does this mean for leaderboard bottom dweller Bristol Palin?
Despite a lack of dance skills and continually low scores, Bristol remains strong in the competition. Week after week, she earns enough votes to push better dances and higher scorers to the overall bottom. It tempts one to think Bristol could simply lie on the floor and still stay in the running. Is the Tea Party actively voting, or is that America just loves an underdog? Whatever the formula is, it works. And Bristol lives to dance another week.
Here’s the breakdown:
Bristol picked “Bollywood” for Gilles Marini Kirstie picked “Disco” for Sabrina Helio picked “Mambo” for Shawn Johnson Kelly Monaco picked “Bolero” for Emmitt Smith Melissa Roycroft picked “Hip Hop” for Apolo Ohno Apolo picked “Jitterbug” for Melissa Emmitt picked “Contemporary” for Kelly Sabrina picked “Charleston” for Kirstie Bristol gets the remaining dance from the list “Rock-n-Roll”
