Rebel Wilson Takes Charge: The 'Pitch Perfect' Scene-Stealer Will Write, Produce and Star in Her Own Comedy Feature
Pitch Perfect, indeed.
Just days after a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect opened nationwide to a solid $14.8 million, its scene-stealing costar, Rebel Wilson, has apparently made a perfect pitch to the movie's distributor, Universal. Deadline reports that Wilson sold the studio on a comedy movie that she would write, produce, and star in.
It's just the beginning of what looks to be a star-making run for the Australian comic actress.
Universal, whose relationship with Wilson began with her attention-grabbing performance as Kristen Wiig's roommate in Bridesmaids, didn't reveal much about the project, such as its title or plot. "Rebel has become one of the hottest comedic actresses working today and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with her following her breakout performance in Bridesmaids and her scene stealing ‘Fat Amy’ in Pitch Perfect," Universal Co-president of Production Peter Kramer said in a statement. "We are especially excited that this project will feature her amazing talents both in front of and behind the camera."
There's no word on when Wilson will make the Universal movie. She already has a full dance card. She's writing and starring in Super Fun Night, an ABC pilot about three nerdy galpals that Conan O'Brien is producing. She'll be seen next in the high school tale Struck by Lightning (the brainchild of Glee's Chris Colfer) and then next year in Michael Bay's action comedy Pain & Gain.
