Beyonce Knowles’ plans to team with Clint Eastwood on a remake of A Star Is Born came to a halt Monday when the singer-actress confirmed she’s no longer attached to the much-anticipated project.

“I was looking forward to the production of A Star Is Born and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood,” the 31-year-old beauty said in a statement to E! News. “For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together.”

With Knowles out of the picture, there’s an open slot to be filled — assuming director Eastwood decides to move forward with the project, anyway.

Which leads one to ask: Who should actually replace Knowles?

The film is the latest of several remakes of the classic Hollywood tearjerker about a rising performer whose career eclipses that of the self-destructive husband who discovered her. The lead role is a big, emotional showcase for a singer/actress — not to mention surefire awards bait. Judy Garland was nominated for an Oscar — and famously lost to Grace Kelly — for her performance in the 1954 version, while Barbara Streisand won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for co-composing the classic “Evergreen,” which she sang in the 1976 version.

Celebuzz has compiled a list of potential replacements — everyone from the realistic (Jennifer Hudson?), to the idealistic (Adele?) and the down-right futuristic (Nicki Minaj?).
