Amber Lee Ettinger Reflects on ‘Obama Girl’ Phenomenon, Says She’s Dating (INTERVIEW)

Back in June, Amber Lee Ettinger, known to millions of people on the Internet as “Obama Girl,” told The Daily Caller she wasn’t excited about the 2012 Presidential election, despite starring in a number of Barack Obama-related videos five years ago on YouTube.

Now, with the election just weeks away, Ettinger tells Celebuzz not much has changed.

“I think I am actually in the same boat with a lot of people,” she revealed. “It’s just not as exciting as it was four years ago, especially for me. Working on those Obama Girl videos and having the opportunity to be singing and dancing about a presidential candidate that wasn’t really that popular at the time … It was exciting back then, and it was exciting for me to be a part of it.”

“I can’t mimic that excitement,” she continued. “It’s a new time. It’s a whole different vibe for me, but I don’t think I’m the only one.”

Five years ago, Ettinger shot to super-stardom when “Crush on Obama” hit the Internet. The video, in which Ettinger declared her love for the now-President of the United States, quickly went viral, eventually reaching over 25 million views on YouTube.

Today, Ettinger looks back on the experience fondly. (“It was life-changing,” she told Celebuzz.)

Still, she’s not sure she wants to jump back into character anytime soon.

“I just don’t want to do the same thing over [and over],” she said. “Leah Kauffman is the original singer of ‘Crush on Obama.’ She actually just made a new video … She asked me, ‘I want to make another Crush on Obama video; do you want to be in it?’ And I said, ‘No, if it’s the same thing, I don’t feel comfortable doing it.’ So, she went and did it, and everybody was kind of talking about it a few weeks ago. I’m happy that she did it.”

“BarelyPolitical kind of took a different route this election,” she continued. “Once Obama became president, they kind of stopped making political videos altogether. [Obama Girl], she didn’t die, but she kind of did her thing. I’m not sure she’s gonna come back and do anything else.”

One thing’s for sure: Ettinger says we won’t be seeing any “Crush on Romney” videos this election.

“No!” she said with a laugh. “One crush per-president, per-lifetime. That’s enough for me! I don’t want to make [Romney’s wife] Ann mad, either.”

In the meantime, Ettinger is staying very busy in other venues. She recently relaunched a jewelry line with her mother called Inspired by Amber, available for purchase online.

And while she was reluctant to admit it, Ettinger also says she’s dating.

“I am, but we don’t need to talk about that. [Laughs]” she said.

“Nobody really asks me that,” she added. “How funny! Maybe they do and I’ve always said no. You just got me to tell the truth. [Laughs]”
