On the premiere episode of ABC’s Last Resort, we saw Lt. Grace Shepard (Daisy Betts) make an emotional call to her father Admiral Shepard (Bruce Davison) letting him know that though their own country attacked her sub, the U.S.S. Colorado, she was OK.

Now her father is working with D.C. weapons lobbyist Kylie Sinclair (Autumn Reeser) to uncover the conspiracy, but could Admiral Shepard be heading to the island?

“What I can say is he does come to the island at one point,” Betts reveals to Celebuzz. “That’s in a couple episodes’ time and that’s just another twist and turn where everyone’s going to be like, ‘Oh no! I can’t believe that happened!’ ”

Last week’s episode was huge for Grace as she was involved in the fight against Russian forces, which broke Captain Marcus Chaplin’s (Andre Braugher) barrier around the island. Ultimately, her life was saved by a reluctant hero, Navy SEAL James King (Daniel Lissing).

We spoke with Betts about what’s in store for Grace this week and beyond.

“This week she’s really just recovering,” said Betts. “She’s probably a little bit frustrated at that fact actually, knowing Grace, she just wants to be there be a part of it, be involved in every part of every mission so she has to take a bit of a back seat.”

On this week’s episode, “Eight Bells,” many of the crew of the Colorado will head to the self-proclaimed Mayor of the town – Julian Serrat’s (Sahr Ngaujah) – compound as they search for three missing sailors. Grace’s responsibility will be to guide the team through their mission from afar.

She told us that in this episode the crew “really comes face to face with the evil that is the Mayor of the town and what he’s willing to do to get what he wants.”

Betts added, “I think that it’s going to be unexpected.”

Towards the end of Thursday’s episode, Betts will once again interact with her “savior,” James. Asked what will come of their relationship she says, “I think that ultimately they’re sitting on very different sides of the fence, but they’re not really. They’re both on the same side, they’re both in the American military.”

The Austrailian actress explained that James seems to be having a hard time dealing with what happened before he and his fellow SEALS were picked up by the Colorado.

“I think he’s going to take some convincing and Grace thinks she might be the one who can do it but the problem is he’s just such an ass all the time and she can’t really get through. I think she’ll keep trying but he really rubs her the wrong way and he doesn’t think much of her,” she said.

Though there relationship is contentious, they do seem to have an understanding of each other.

Bells told us, “They both like being proactive and doing the right thing but they’re just not willing to admit it, well certainly James is not willing to admit that he’s on their side and Grace is more like, ‘Why don’t you just admit it? Why don’t you come and help us? What’s your problem?’”

“Until he’s ready to reveal what that problem is I think he’s going to be very cagey about it and not very receptive to her extended pleas,” she continued. “I don’t think she’s willing to plead that hard.”

Last Resort airs Thursdays at 8 PM on ABC.
