Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Amy Poehler Get Collared in Fall’s New Neckwear: Trendspotting (GALLERY)
The hottest way to dress up your neckline for fall isn’t a statement necklace or plunging neckline. This season, it’s all about the collar.
Celebs like Alexa Chung, Abbie Cornish, and Bella Thorne are all buttoned-up for fall in collared shirts, dresses and even necklaces.
While buttoned-up collared shirts may be known for appearing … well, buttoned-up, this season collars are breaking out of boardrooms and boarding schools and popping out everywhere from the red carpet to Sunday brunch.
While crisp white collars add instant polish to any look, colors, prints and metallic collars are offering a fresh ways to jazz up shirts and dresses.
The trick to making this trend feel fresh?
To give collared looks a fresh update for fall, take a cue from the trendsetters who’ve been popping theirs this fall.
Chung’s preppy uniform — sweater over an oxford — looks cool, not stuffy, thanks to her knack for styling things in unexpected, quirky ways. Case in point: Chung worked a white collar with a kitschy bat sweater, a printed frock and a navy trench, smoking slippers and quirky pink shades.
Emma Stone added polish to denim skinnies with a pop of collar.
If a collared shirt feels too preppy for you, follow Amy Poehler’s lead and invest in one of the season’s collared necklaces to dress up jeans and a tee or add a sparkle to your night-out attire.
