Watch Brad Pitt’s First Chanel No. 5 Commercial (VIDEO)
For the first time, the famed fashion house asked a man to represent one of their iconic fragrances, skewing the commercial from the perspective of a man who falls in love with … the woman’s scent (yes, as in the perfume!).
In the ad, Pitt pontificates against a grey background about the world being a journey and leaving a woman behind — leaving some viewers more confused than intrigued.
Evoking memories of Calvin Klein’s infamous Obsession fragrance campaign from the nineties, with minimal effects and maximum impact, Pitt wonders why “plans disappear and dreams takeover” in the commercial and explains how life “is not a journey, every journey ends, but we go on.”
The 48-year-old goes on to waxpoetic about life’s most troubling idiosyncrasies –including fate, fortune, and love — and leaves the viewers with just one thought “Chanel No. 5… inevitable.”
Chanel really built up anticipation surrounding the ad, releasing three teaser clips from the campaign before its official debut. Entitled “Where?”, Why?”, and “Mystery?” the teasers featured only the back of Pitt’s head in a similarly stark black-and-white room.
