Did Leona Lewis “find love” before Rihanna? According to the British songstress herself, yes!

Lewis recently told the Daily Star she and hitmaker Calvin Harris collaborated on the hit track — “We Found Love” — before Rihanna released her own fist-pumping version last year.

“I worked with Calvin and we recorded “We Found Love”. But he went touring with Rihanna, and she ended up releasing it,” Lewis said.

So why did the X Factor winner pass on the track?

“I didn’t commit to it because I wanted “Trouble” to be my first single,” she explained. “So I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna.”

However, when it comes to the two recordings, Lewis says there’s no comparison. “It was the same version and production but mine’s better,” she said.

But don’t expect to hear Lewis’ “We Found Love” anytime soon. “I still have the recording but I’d never leak it. That’s so unprofessional.”

As for the song’s massive success, Lewis told the paper, “It was a bit annoying to see how big a hit it was around the world, but if I’d released it maybe it wouldn’t have done as well.”

Lewis isn’t the only artist who passed on a future hit. In fact, The Voice’s social media commentator Christina Milian knows what it feels like to reject a song, only to have it turn into a hit at the hand of Rihanna. In 2006, Milian passed on “S.O.S.,” which then went on to become RiRi’s breakthrough hit. In the aftermath, Milian was dropped from her label.

However, even Rihanna has passed on hit songs. The Bajan beauty rejected Jordin Sparks’ Top 10 single, “Battlefield,” in 2009.
