Paranormal Activity triumphed at the box office over the weekend. With a four-day haul of $30.2 million, it won the No. 1 spot, but opened with the third-best of the four films in the series — the third installment earned $52.5 million and the second chapter took in $40.6 million.

Meanwhile, Alex Cross, Tyler Perry’s first big role outside of his own projects, failed to attract his devout Madea audience, grossing only $11.7 million and landing at a disappointing No. 5.

Argo, on the other hand, continued to perform modestly well, earning $16.6 million over the weekend. The weekend’s haul brings its cumulative gross to $43.1 million, which is just shy of its reported $44.5 budget.

At No. 3., the animated feature Hotel Transylvania continues to perform strongly, picking up another $13.5 million for a total revenue to date of more than $119 million.

And at No. 4, Liam Neeson maintains a tenuous hold on audiences with Taken 2, which has grossed $105.9 million to date after its $13.4 million take last weekend.
