Monday’s episode of the popular singing competition show featured three amazing performances from Team Adam, Team Christina and Team Cee Lo.
Coach Adam Levine is now the first of the four coaches to fill his team in the battles after the epic performance I’ve been waiting three weeks for: youngster Brandon Mahone vs. free spirit powerhouse Nicole Nelson.
The two soulful singers duked it out on the perfect song for their voices, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” During rehearsals, Mahone was intimidated by Nicole’s voice and experience, but you just knew he was going to bring it when they got to the stage. Their voices meshed so well together and I thought for sure, both singers would continue to the Knockouts rounds next week.
Unfortunately, no coach snatched up Mahone after Adam chose Nicole as the winner of the battle. The Maroon 5 frontman seemed baffled and upset that no one stole him (as was I) but here’s hoping we’ll see or hear him again. If not on a future season of The Voice, than on the radio.
Additional Team Adam winners shown in a clip package during the episode include Loren Allred (vs. Brian Scartocci), Cassadee Pope (vs. Ryan Jirovec) and Joe Kirkland (vs. Samuel Mouton).
Christina Aguilera had yet another tough decision to make between Devyn DeLoera and Marissa Ann. As the youngest member of the competition, Marissa Ann, 15, showed pipes far beyond her years on En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind.”
It was a pretty even match up as both girls went at it during the performance with great ad-libs and harmonies. Speaking to both contestants, Christina was proud and told them, “You’ve both shown you were true superstars today.”
In the end, she chose Devyn to remain on her team and Marissa Ann was ….STOLEN.
As she was giving her thanks to her former Coach, Blake Shelton hit his button and stole Marissa for his team.
Team Cee Lo’s duel was between second time Voice contestant Daniel Rosa and Hurricane Katrina survivor Alex Marceaux.
The indie singers worked with Cee Lo and Rob Thomas on a version of Adam Lambert’s “Whatdaya Want From Me.”
Though Rosa was lacking in confidence during rehearsals, he killed it on the stage. While Marceaux is classically trained, Cee-Lo chose Rosa to continue on to the next round as he told them, “His voice affects me. It hurts me in such a good way.”
With six contestants left in the battles and only one steal left to use by Christina, Tuesday’s final episode of the battle rounds is bound to be epic.
The battles conclude Tuesday at 8 PM. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 PM.
