The cast of 90210 is still buzzing about Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, who makes a splash on Monday night’s episode via a special cameo.

“They were really excited about [him] being on,” Riley Smith, who doesn’t actually appear in the episode, told Celebuzzwhen he dropped by The Daily Buzz studio. “When I came back to work, everybody was bragging about it. They all got pictures with him. I know I’ve seen that a lot of the fans are excited. He was excited to be on. It should be a good episode.”

Lochte isn’t the only thing on Smith’s mind: he also dished on his character Riley’s upcoming relationship with Annie (Shenae Grimes).

“What I like so far is that they’ve made it go slow,” he said. “As I’ve found out, Annie’s had a lot of boyfriends. If it happens fast, it usually ends fast, and luckily for my character, it’s a real slow move.”

As fans of the show already know, Annie and Riley don’t start off on the best of terms — mostly because they have different ideas of how to get Dixon (Tristan Wilds) better.

Smith, 34, explained, “They have that struggle all the time with each other. Kind of a struggle of wits and opinions that’s ultimately the attraction between the two, but [it’s] also going to be what keeps them apart and coming and going with each other.”

But before Riley and Annie get together this season, Annie will have another new romantic prospect: Colin (guest star Rob Mayes). Regardless, Smith assures “Lannie” fans — those who adore the pairing of Annie with ex-boyfriend Liam (Matt Lanter)  — that there’s no reason to fret.

“I’m pretty sure that all the Lannie fans hate Riley and they just want Liam and Annie to be together, and I understand that,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen in the end. It’s just going to take time and obviously they want to save the best for last.”

He continued: “I think part of them coming back together is finding each other and finding themselves first. I think that the way they’ll probably end up setting it up we’ll be really special and cool and everybody will be really happy with the outcome but I don’t know that for sure.”

As for now, he told us, “Riley is sticking around for a while. “

90210 airs Mondays at 8 PM on The CW. Watch Smith’s entire interview with The Daily Buzz above.
