‘Voice’ Judge Christina Aguilera Chides ‘The X Factor': ‘That’s Not What Music’s About’
“I’ve not actually seen an episode of any of the other music shows, not a full episode,” Aguilera, 31, said when asked about the hit FOX series, on which her one-time pop rival Britney Spears is a judge. “I saw the commercials with Simon Cowell and I was like, ‘Man, that’s not what music’s about.’ It made me sad.”
“So that’s why I was kind of turned off by the whole thing, just by seeing the commercials,” she continued.
“I don’t like it,” Aguilera — who on Monday debuted her new single, “Blank Page” — added. “That’s why I’m on The Voice, to show we can be positive, we don’t have to knock people down. I support the music business, thank you.”
The reality-competition programs previously battled it out in September, when NBC decided to air a third episode of The Voice against the season 2 premiere of The X Factor.
Cowell described the move as a “cynical, cold-hearted, unprofessional way of doing business.”
The Voice airs Monday night on NBC.
